24 Hours in Your Day

Every single person has 24 hours in a day.  No matter who you are talking about.  Parents, kids, executives, doctors, athletes.  They all have that in common.

Now let’s consider working out.  Working out only consists of about 5% of your total day if you workout.  Realistically, you should get about 8 hours of sleep.  This then leaves us with 16 hours and if we workout for an hour, that means we have 15 other hours.

Don’t worry, I’ll include the other 9 hours of work (I’m going to give you some commute time).

Now we have 6 more hours.

YAY, Time!

Where I am going with this, is that the one hour of “working out you do” is GREAT!! Do not get me wrong, but it is still very minimal when comparing it to the rest of the day.

The issue that arises, is that we view that one hour working out as a substitute for everything else and our health.

Let’s put this in perspective.

Who do you think would be a healthier individual? Person 1 or Person 2

Person 1:

Workouts 5x a week 1 hour. Only does strength training.  Works a high stress office job, sits most of the day, doesn’t have time to hang out with friends.

Person 2: 

Goes to the gym 1-2x a week.  Go on hikes weekly, plays recreational sports with their friends, enjoys their work environment.

I don’t know about you but I would almost guarantee person 2 is healthier than person 1 and they work out way less!

Now these are extreme examples, but where I am going with this, just because you work out for 1 hour a day doesn't mean that you are healthy in all aspects of life.  You have to consider what you are doing for the other 23 hours.  

How are you filling your cup?

Working out should be fun, it should help to fulfill you BUT there is more to life and health than hitting the gym 5x a week.

Go on long walks. Turn off your phone. Be in the moment with your friends and family. Enjoy the sun. Try new activities. Take the time to ground yourself throughout the day.

Remember: You have the same time as everyone else and you can choose how you spend it.
